COWPAT FIELD COMPETITION -
FEBRUARY 17TH. 2008.
A new year is upon us, and today was our first
competition day.
The original intention was to try to squeeze 4 comps.
into what we hoped would be a long warm summer day, but as we all know,
this summer is noticeably lacking in warm, fine, (not to mention
windless) days. This day was devoid of rain showers at Cowpat, but by
midday, or thereabouts, the wind was not quite strong enough to blow the
Ticks off a dog – but nearly! Obviously, some were scared off by the
forecast, and some, of course, had family commitments, so there was only
a light attendance.
Those that made it had to contend with a very sloppy field, and mowing
the heavy growth, including inside the shed meant we were away to
a late start.
In the event, only one foreshortened comp. was held,
with results as follows:-

COWPAT FIELD COMPS.
MARCH 16TH. 2008.
Two
competitions were scheduled for today, but once again, the weather
dictated otherwise. The conditions early on were broken cloud with a
light S.E.wind, but by the time of the
fly-off for the first comp. (Toby Low memorial Duration),
the wind had increased in velocity so that fly-off times were low. An
adjournment was called for lunch, and the wind picked up with the
result that he majority of those present elected not to fly the second
comp. (Class”A” Duration).

COWPAT FIELD COMPS. 22ND. JUNE – ARTHUR
GORRIE MEMORIAL
We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the
Arthur Gorrie interclub day – but if you want to get picky, flying in
the afternoon with a cloudless sky and the breeze blowing directly out
of the sun was less than perfect – however, considering the number of
events “blown away” this year, I guess we shouldn’t complain!
The day kicked off with the signature event, Open
Duration, followed by Open Texaco, and 2cc LER. The Arthur Gorrie
Shield now returns to NMAA, because Dave Perkins competed this year.
(No surprise there -he didn’t make it last year!)
Congratulations Dave, and to the other winners,
Dave Paton, and Arnold Broese.

COMPS. 06/07/2008.
After very
ordinary weather the previous day, Sunday 6th.
dawned, if not perfect, at least
reasonable, with moderate Southerly breezes during the morning,
swinging to lighter North Easterlies later in the day, and some cloud,
especially during the a.m. Des. Slattery undertook the C/D role for
the first comp. (Nostalgia), and Alan Brand officiated for the Class
“A” Duration event in the p.m. One thing is clear from the results in
recent comps. – some of us (and that
includes your recorder) will have to start using these ancient diesels

COMPS. 20/07/08.
Three
comps. were scheduled for today, the first
being the Allan Mowat Memorial 2cc combined
event, which was abandoned due to bad weather before the second
(Texaco) segment could even be flown on April 6th.
Unfortunately, 3 who started on that day could not complete the comp.
today. The second event for today was the “A” class Texaco, and the
last was Class “B” Duration. The day started brilliantly – literally –
there were no clouds and negligible wind. As the day progressed, the
wind appeared blowing from the NW (straight out of the sun!), and
gradually increasing in speed , eventually
turning NE, and moderating at the end of the day when a broken cloud
cover appeared. The day was not without mishap. Mick Walsh and Peter
Doolan both finished up in trees on the top of the hill at different
times, and Alan Brand had to trek to a neighbouring property to
recover his model, which lost an argument with a barbed wire fence! By
-the-way, many thanks to those club members who assisted all 3
retrieve their models.

COWPAT FIELD COMPS.
03/08/0
We don’t often have weather the like of which we
experienced this day. Beautiful; clear blue skies (a few clouds would
have made the models easier to see at altitude, mind you), light
variable winds, and a good roll-up into the bargain. Mike Moore was
C/D for the first comp., which was Antique
’38. The second comp was scheduled to be Ian Alexander’s ½A
Scale event, but unfortunately, Ian
rang us at the field to tell us the disturbing news that his wife had
been rushed to hospital. Monique is on the mend now, thank goodness.
Anyway, an impromptu meeting at lunch time decide to just run the
event as a scale Texaco competition, and yours truly volunteered to be
C/D.
